I was born and raised in Japan’s mountainous Nagano-Pref. Currently living in Kyoto-Pref. When I traveled to Hokkaido on Dec 2019, I experienced wildlife world and it made me start taking their photography. Since Apr 2022, I have focused on Japanese macaque who is known as snow monkey, and I went to whole Japan from Yakushima island on the south to Shimokita Peninsula on the north in order to meet the monkeys.
I’m inspired by the hand scroll “Choju Jinbutsu Giga” handed down in Kozanji Temple in Kyoto, I continue shooting day by day to make the unknown wold of monkeys(and other animals) into my work “Choju En Giga”.
I also photograph pets that live with humans and stray cats that live on street corners, leaving behind photographs and videos of animals that live close to humans and human society.
In addition, I have long been devoted to landscape photography, photographing old townscapes and natural landscapes in Japan and overseas. I was in charge of photography for Alex Kerr’s book “Nippon Pilgrimage (published by Shueisha Shinsho 2020)” about hidden villages in Japan. *A sequel to the same project is underway since Oct 2022.

長野県伊那市出身、京都府亀岡市在住。
ニホンザルを中心に各地の野生動物を撮影。時に絵巻や屏風絵、浮世絵などの古美術の世界をモチーフに取り入れながら、自然の中で生きる動物たちのユニークな姿を写真に切り取っている。
ヒトと暮らすペットや街角に生きる野良猫の撮影をライフワークとし、人間や人間社会に寄り添いながら生きる動物たちの姿を、写真や映像に残している。自身も8匹の猫に囲まれ暮らす。
その他、10年以上にわたって国内外の風景を撮影。著書『ニッポン巡礼（アレックス・カー著、集英社新書 2020刊行）』では、撮影を担当し各地を取材。※25年同企画の続編『ディープ・ニッポン』が出版予定。
